Dr. Dharam Raj Uprety

He has over 10 years of experience in the field of community forestry and livelihoods. He did his doctoral degree (Dr. nat. techn.) from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria. He has worked as Post-Doc researcher in between 2007-2008 at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague in Sustainable Forestry. He has completed his MS in Applied and Landscape Ecology at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague in between 2007-2008. He did his master's degree in Sociology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He worked from 1996 to 2002 in the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation, Department of Plant Resources. He has authored the book ‘Community Forestry, Rural Livelihoods, and Conflict: A Case Study of Community Forests User Groups in Nepal’. Recently, his research article on ‘Concentration of Trace Elements in Arable Soil after Long-term Application of Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers’ is published in the Journal of Nutrient Cycling in Agroecosystem, Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2009. His current research and professional interests include: community forestry, livelihoods, climate change and REED. He is writing a book on evolution and development of community forestry in Nepal in affiliation with FECOFUN. Currently, Dr. Uprety is working as Community Forestry and Livelihoods specialist at ForestAction Nepal.
